This was absolutely the best place to stay! Our hosts Donald and Wadee made our trip very comfortable and enjoyable. As a person with some slight disabilities I was afraid my stay in the Amazon would be very confined and uncomfortable. Boy was I wrong!!
Our cabin was great, very clean & comfortable. We had electricity without any problems. Donald has made certain that drinking water is pure and clean and always available. Wadee runs a small Thai restaurant where she does all the cooking and the food was just incredible! I have Celiac disease and she even made certain all my food was Gluten-Free and safe for me to eat. Even the pancakes each morning!! I brought her some of my own Gluten-Free flour to use. She even invented a special "Wadee Rice" fried rice dish that was safe for me to eat. She will make it with, or without, soy sauce. So be certain to ask her for some Wadee Rice for lunch.
And don't forget to pack your swimsuit - the pool was just the perfect ending for a long hot day in the jungle…clean and cool, and plenty big enough for a great swim. Stay in the pool until just after sunset and you may be able to enjoy the bats as they come out to take a sip out of the pool and chase away the mosquitoes. And at night listen quietly and you may hear the Peruvian Night Monkey’s as they make their way through the trees surrounding the cabins.
The city of Puerto Maldonado is the capital of its region, Madre de Dios, in the southeastern part of the Peruvian Amazon. The town was founded in the beginning of the 20th century by settlers collecting wild rubber from the rainforest. With the discovery of the area’s extremely high biodiversity of flora and fauna, tourism had expanded in recent years, and improved many of the city’s services.
