Using natural health remedies has become quite commonplace in recent times. In the main, self-medicating with medicinal herbs and potions derived from various natural sources are often safer and just as effective, or even more so than prescription drugs. However, because natural remedies are often seen as being non-toxic many people do not realise that care should still be taken when using them as the potential for experiencing side effects may be triggered in certain situations.

For example, if someone is already using a prescription drug and then starts taking an herbal remedy, there could well be an interaction between the two elements resulting in an unpleasant or in a more extreme case, a life threatening physical reaction to the combination. It is therefore vital to consider what if any other medication you may be using before commencing with a natural health remedy. If in doubt discuss the issue with your doctor or health care provider. Having made the previous statement, it should however be borne in mind that in most cases natural remedies can be successfully used in tandem with prescribed medication.

If you are unwell but are not taking prescribed medication and believe that a natural remedy would be beneficial; consulting with an expert in the field, such as an herbalist or naturopath will obviously be of benefit as they will be able to, advise, on what type of alternative health treatment/herbs and/or dosages you should use.

Aside from the risks as outlined above, using natural therapies to treat your symptoms is a perfectly safe and some would say, preferential way to go; rather than subjecting your body to prescribed drugs, that often carry long lists of potential side effects; some of which might be described as far more unpleasant than the condition you are trying to eliminate. In contrast, it is worthwhile to note that an individual using a remedy which has been provided for him by a certified naturopath/expert has few concerns in regard to unpleasant or unexpected reactions to the preparation.

It is no surprise therefore, to find, that natural health remedies are rapidly becoming more popular in the main stream. Inevitably, western populations have become aware of the potential dangers related to many pharmaceutical concoctions which aim to manage disease rather than cure it; whilst often exposing the user to a host of questionable contra indications.

For anyone who may doubt the rising popularity of natural health remedies, a walk around any big western city will more than likely, bring them into view of Chinese Medicine outlets, natural health shops and every type of holistic/therapeutic healing establishment or clinic imaginable. Then of course, the food stores and outlets selling organic products are also becoming common sights, as more people learn about the benefits of natural health remedies then come to a better understanding of the role that good nutrition plays in maintaining health and wellness.

In summary, natural health remedies as recommended for use by experts in that field are a safe and reliable alternative for the healing of many complaints from small domestic accidents such as burns or sprains or incidents of earache, colds etc, to the more complex treatments that maybe required for serious illnesses and diseases. Consequently, the use of natural health remedies is no longer looked down upon with vague amusement; instead it appears to create interested responses and even at times an exchange of natural health recipes between fans.
